2024 Suicide Care Trainings Open for Registration 1/12/2024 In collaboration with the Behavioral Health Training Partnership, MHA-WI is pleased to offer suicide care trainings for mental health professionals and health care providers supporting individuals who may be at risk of suicide. These unique training opportunities are made possible through grant funding from the Department of Health Services to promote best practice and evidence-based techniques in recognizing, assessing and managing suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Alternatives to Suicide Groups August 1, 2022 Alternatives to Suicide (Alt2Su), taken from the Wildflower Alliance's Alt2Su approach, is a peer led support group that allows participants to talk about suicidal thoughts, feelings, or experiences without fear of being judged. MHA's online group will meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, from 7-8:30pm CT, online via Zoom. These groups are free to attend and welcome to any adults 18 years or older. New Research for More Informed 988 Messaging 11/13/2023 With the nationwide transition to 988, a need arose for 988-specific formative research among groups at higher risk for or disproportionately impacted by suicide to help support culturally sensitive, responsive, effective, and successful 988 communications: First, to make more people aware of 988 across the country, then to promote overall help seeking, and instill trust and confidence in the service. The Nation's First 988 Crisis Line for Indigenous People 11/22/2023 The Native and Strong Lifeline (NSLL) is the nation’s first 988 crisis line designed by and for Indigenous people to address disproportionate rates of suicide among Indigenous populations. NSLL is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, providing support to any Indigenous person in crisis, regardless of Tribal-enrollment status. NSLL is accessed by dialing 988 then pressing 4. All calls are answered by Indigenous counselors who provide callers with culturally inclusive services and resources. Learn More
